The Gatlinburg and Pigeon Forge Trolley

Both the cities of Gatlinburg and Pigeon Forge have a very economical efficient trolley system.  Let us preface by stating that the Gatlinburg Trolley and the Pigeon Forge Fun Trolley are 2 separate entities.  This breakdown should provide an easy way to understand the difference between the the great option for saving parking fees and walking mileage.

Gatlinburg Trolley

The Gatlinburg Trolley transit system encompasses 20 vehicles covering over 50 miles around the city and even into bridging the gap into Pigeon Forge.  Despite the fact that Gatlinburg is very walking tour friendly, the area still has a considerable amount of guests who are frequent vacationers that need easy access to favorite locations.  The Gatlinburg allows for a safe and efficient free vacation.

Schedule

The Trolley operates on a seasonal schedule but is still open 365 days a year.

Mar – Apr: 10:30 a.m. – 10 p.m.
May – Oct: 8:30 a.m. – 12 midnight
Nov – Feb: Sun – Thu 10:30 a.m. – 6 p.m., Fri and Sat 10:30 a.m. – 10 p.m.

The Gatlinburg Trolleys are color coded by route. Look for the signs posted on the front and sides of each trolley to ensure you are on the correct route.

Red RouteDowntown River Rd

The Red Trolley Route runs from the Gatlinburg Mass Transit Center south on River Road to the Parkway then north on Historic Nature Trail/Airport Road and the Convention Center to Park Vista Hotel. Trolley continues down Cherokee Orchard Road to Baskins Creek, onto Stephens and Newton Lane, and then enters onto the Parkway at traffic light #6. Departures are approximately every 30 minutes.  Fare is 50 cents.  Exact change required.

May – November

The Green Trolley Route runs from Gatlinburg Mass Transit Center up Cherokee Orchard Road to Park Vista Hotel, continues down Historic Nature Trail to Parkway and travels south to M&O, River Road and Ski Mountain Road, and then travels north on Parkway to the Gatlinburg Mass Transit Center. Departures are approximately every 30 minutes. Fare is 50 cents. Exact change required.

April – December

The delightful mini-trolley that services the famous Great Smoky Arts & Crafts Community Yellow Route can be boarded at the Gatlinburg Mass Transit Center at traffic light #5. This Trolley makes the entire eight-mile Glades/Buckhorn Loop. One fare provides unlimited access all along the route. This route is available daily April through October and during November and December the route is available Monday through Saturday.  *Please Note: This route takes approximately one hour to complete. Be aware that it may be as long as one hour before the Trolley returns to each pick-up/drop off point. Fare is one dollar all day. Exact change required.

Tan RouteNational Park

June – October

The National Park Tan Trolley Route runs June through October. The route departs from the Gatlinburg Mass Transit Center at approximately 9 am, 10:30 am, Noon, 2:30 pm, 4 pm, and 5:30 pm, and runs up River Road onto the Parkway and into Great Smoky Mountains National Park. Stops include Sugarlands Visitor Center, Laurel Falls Parking Area, and Elkmont Campground before returning to Gatlinburg. Trip lasts about one and one-half hours. Fare is $2.00 round trip.  Exact change required.

Pink RouteDollywood

Fare $1.00 Each Way

The Pink Trolley offers convenient access to Dollywood. Trolley departs from the Gatlinburg Mass Transit Center at traffic light #5 approximately every 60 minutes, with stops in Pigeon Forge at the Dollywood Information Center on Parkway and the entrance to Dollywood. Dollywood drop-offs coincide with the park’s opening time each day and pick-ups run one & one-half hours after the park closing time. On dates when Dollywood is closed, the Trolley runs to the Dollywood Information Center following the Operating Schedule at right. From November until late March, the Trolley runs only on dates when Dollywood is open. Fare is $1.00 each way.  Exact change required.

East Parkway & City Hall

The Blue Trolley serves the free Gatlinburg Park-N-Ride lot located next to City Hall on East Parkway, and offers convenient access to shops, lodging, and attractions. The route begins at the Gatlinburg Mass Transit Center at traffic light #5 approximately every 45 minutes and runs along the Parkway to East Parkway, then to the Gatlinburg Community Center before it returns to the Mass Transit Center along the same route. Fare is 50 cents. Exact change required.

Purple RouteNorth Gatlinburg Parkway & Welcome Center

This popular Purple Trolley route serves the free Gatlinburg Park-N-Ride lot and Gatlinburg Welcome Center located on the Spur/Highway 441 between Gatlinburg and Pigeon Forge. The route departs from the Park-N-Ride lot south through the entrance to Gatlinburg and along the Parkway, ending at the Gatlinburg Mass Transit Center at traffic light #5 in downtown Gatlinburg. Departures are approximately every 30 minutes. Fare is 50 cents.  Exact change required.

Gatlinburg Winter Magic Trolley Ride of Lights

This Trolley Route departs the Mass Transit Center at traffic light #5 for a 45 minute ride throughout Gatlinburg’s Winter Magic displays three times nightly from November through December (excluding the first Friday in December, Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, New Years Eve and New Years Day), and each Saturday night in January, with departures at 6:30, 7:30, and 8:30 each night of operation. Tickets may be reserved and purchased online at gatlinburg.com/events.  For questions only, please call 865.277.8222.

Day Pass

For $2pp a day pass bracelet can be purchased at the Gatlinburg Welcome Centers, City Hall, and most hotels in the area.  The day pass cannot be purchased through a Trolley driver so plan accordingly.

Sit back and relax

The main Gatlinburg Trolley depot is located at the Ripley’s Aquarium on River Road.  You can also discuss the fine mechanics of the fleet or really get some in depth mapping with staff before you begin your adventure around town.  Vehicles are air conditioned and feature panoramic windows to accommodate the guests exceptional view of all Gatlinburg has to offer during the summer or winter.

Pigeon Forge Trolley

The Pigeon Forge Trolley, delightfully referred to as “The Fun Trolley” was a city wide effort to cut down on emissions for the mountains and help vacationers reduce gas prices.  The route line runs from the main Pigeon Forge strip through the Sevierville Courthouse.

Closed on Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve and Christmas Day

Main Street trolleys run every 20 to 25 minutes. Wears Valley trolleys run every 40 to 45 minutes. Dollywood trolleys run every 15 to 20 minutes. Dolly’s Splash Country trolleys run every 15 to 20 minutes. Gatlinburg Welcome Center trolleys run every 25 to 30 minutes. These times may vary due to traffic flow during peak tourism days, car shows and holiday weekends.

Dollywood Trolley leaves Patriot Park and travels to and from Dollywood continuuously. The Trolley runs thirty minutes before Dollywood opens and in the evening until everyone is returned to Patriot Park. **Arrival times every 15 minutes.

Green RouteGatlinburg Welcome Center

This trolley leaves from Patriot Park and travels non-stop to the Gatlinburg Welcome Center on the spur just outside of Gatlinburg and then returns to Patriot Park. The hours of operation for this trolley are subject to the schedule of the city of Gatlinburg’s trolleys. **Arrival times every 30 minutes.

Yellow Route Sevierville Courthouse

The Courthouse trolley leaves Patriot Park and travels north on Teaster Lane passing through the Belz Mall/Riverview Mall area then enters the parkway northbound at traffic light # 2. It continues north into downtown Sevierville before turning around at the Sevier County Courthouse. Featured stops include Tanger Five Oaks Mall, Wal-Mart, Kmart, and the River Place shops.

South Parkway

The South Parkway trolley leaves Patriot Park and travels east to Teaster, then north to Jake Thomas with a stop at LeConte Convention Center. Then turns left onto Parkway South to light #6, Pine Mountain Rd. The Trolley goes as far as the Mainstay Suites before returning to the parkway. This Trolley then travels to the south city limits serving campgrounds in the area and the Dixie Stampede before returning to Patriot Park. ** Arrival times every 25 minutes.

 

Wears Valley

The Wears Valley trolley leaves Patriot Park and travels north on Teaster Lane through the Pigeon River Crossings Mall/Riverview Mall area to traffic light #2 on the parkway. From light #2 the trolley proceeds to Community Center Drive, Sand Pike Blvd. and then onto Wears Valley Road where it services area campgrounds and other businesses as it continues westbound to the Pigeon Forge city limits before returning to Patriot Park by the same route. **Arrival times every 40-45 minutes.

Dollywood Splash Country

Splash Country Trolley leaves Patriot Park and travels to Splash Country and returns to Patriot Park. **Arrival times every 20 minutes.

Purple RouteNorth Parkway

The North Parkway trolley leaves Patriot Park and travels north through Pigeon Forge and continues on into a portion of Sevierville. After traveling north to the Governor’s Crossing & Wal-Mart areas, it turns south again and returns to Patriot Park. **Arrival times every 20 minutes.

Pigeon Forge Winterfest Trolley Ride

A Winterfest Lights Driving Tour Guide will be made available beginning November 1st. The Guide includes a map, information on the light displays, and history of the area. You can pick up the Winterfest Lights Driving Tour Guide at the Pigeon Forge Welcome Center at traffic light #0, or at the Fun Time Trolley office in Patriot Park. You may also download the Guide directly from this page. Winterfest light displays will shine through the end of February.

Day Pass

Guests can only purchase a day pass from the Fun Time Trolley office at Patriot’s Park located atXXX.  You will receive a wristband.  Children ages 3 and under are free.  The office address is 186 Old Mill Ave, Pigeon Forge, TN 37863.  Office hours are 9am-11pm daily.  Additional questions can be answered by calling 865.453.6444.
